Public Space in the New Urban Agenda: A changing Paradigm for Modern Development

The Center of Local Governance at PSU will organize a public lecture titled: “Public Space in the New Urban Agenda: A changing Paradigm for Modern Development”. Professor Michael W. Mehaffy, a senior researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology based in Stockholm, a consultant to UN-Habitat for the New Urban Agenda, and the author of “Cities Alive” and “Design for a Living Planet” will present the lecture. The public lecture will be held at Prince Sultan University, Building 105 – G-C01 – Ground Floor, on Tuesday,25 Sha’ban 1440H, 30 April 2019 at 10 am.
The lecture focuses on the benefits and challenges of implementing the New Urban Agenda, the outcome document of the UN Habitat III conference, which was adopted by acclamation by all 193 member nations including Saudi Arabia. The document emphasizes the role of public space systems as the essential framework for urban prosperity, sustainability, and quality of life. Professor Mehaffy will give a report on current research conducted on this matter at KTH Centre for the Future of Places, and share examples and lessons of policy and practice.
